The Constitution in the Twenty-First Century!

THE 11TH AMENDMENT "The Judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by Citizens of another State, or by Citizens or Subjects of any Foreign State." Meaning: This amendment is stating that you give states certain sovereign and free judicial powers over certain national things as well as limiting their rights to sue states. If you live in New York you can't sue Missouri or any foreign states. I chose this image because for one I like their cute mascots and it describes part of the 11th amendment without too much information. It shows that if someone is wanting to sue a state in another state it cannot happen unless, that person wanting to sue was in that state.

THE BIG AMENDMENT TEN!!! "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively , or to the people." Meaning: This amendment means that anything the constitution doesn't mention can be dealt with by states as part of their powers they have if they want to do so. This was a cute drawing and just indicating that the states that make up the United States have power as well. Well, at least the rest of it...

AMENDMENT IX!!! The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people. Meaning: This amendment states and notifies people that there are other rights that doe exists from ones that are mentioned more explicitly, and even though these hidden laws are not listed does not mean that they are to be violated because they are laws and rights given to the people. In other words, doesn't mean its not listed doesn't been its not a law or right, sometimes you have to read between the lines. T his picture was interesting and shows that even though something doesn't directly say something doesn't mean you can't do it. This was a great example of the 9th amendment in my opinion.

AMENDMENT VIII "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed , nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted ." Meaning: This amendment pretty much explains itself, but this states in my opinion safety and fair rules for a prisoner. It's saying that any punishment given out must be fair and not tormenting, as well as not having a high unreasonable bail is not needed in the system, and lastly no extra fines that weren't there before. I chose this picture because the 8th amendment states that there is not be any cruel and unusual punishments on criminals. However in some states, they allow the death penalty but, isn't that considered a cruel punishment? What do you think about the death penalty?

AMENDMENT VII " In suits at common law , where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved , and no fact tried by a jury shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States than according to the rules of the common law." Meaning: This amendment  basically protects citizens as well as ensuring that citizens have the right to have a courtroom whether is a common law or civil law court. This amendment also states that to sue someone it has to be 20.00 or more in the Unites States courtroom. This picture was quit funny and summed up a part of the 7th amendment stating that to sue it has to be 20.00! I think this is funny and understandably for kids.

*SIXTH AMENDMENT* "In all criminal prosecutions , the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation ; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor; and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense." Meaning:  This amendment is highly important because its the basic rights of United State citizens during a crime prosecution, this amendment guarantees the rights to criminal defendants such as a public trial, knowing who their accuser is, a lawyer, and what the charges held against you are.  This video was cute and listed thoroughly about the rights to a defendant in a crime prosecution.
